Nature Outfit Contest *RESULTS*

Alright..

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for -- the winners of the Nature Outfit contest!

Competitors were in for quite a challenge:

 They were required to make an entire outfit from nothing but items found in nature. This includes deer fur, antlers, and items that could be made while in the wild.

Without further ado, our winners were...

First Place

First place goes to Casandra189 for her award-winning flower ensemble.

 Sadly, though, Casandra has recently quit playing Animal Jam. Her prizes will be moved down to second place.

I'm so sorry about all of the confusion. There weren't many entries, prizes got moved around, this contest was ultimately a disaster.

Hello, Sunbeams!

I know, it's usually Throwback Thursday, but I'm too impatient and cannot wait that long to post this.

I stumbled upon this old picture I had posted back when Eagles were nothing but a rumor.

I remember trying to figure this out! I was very hopeful that I was correct, and was excited to see eagles become released in Jamaa.  And I'm proud to say: AJHQ didn't disappoint me in the least!

Quilted Blanket + Jamaa Sightings

Hey Jams!

Today's new item is the quilted blanket, sold in the Cocoa Hut in Mt. Shiveer.

I like how this item is non-member, but it does have its flaws. It looks like a blanket for the poor. Don't agree? Well, look in the Cocoa Hut.

The nice, fluffy fur coats are for members, whilst non-members only get old hoods, old blankets, and quilted blankets that are all patched up.

JAMAA SIGHTINGS

Check out some interesting things that happened around Jamaa this week:

 First off, I was hanging out in Township, when I saw that someone had entered my den.

I came home to find a tiger walking around my room.

I asked her, "Who are you?"

To which she replied, "It's awesome!"

Ok then..

Have you heard the news yet?

There are clues to our next animal in the Art Studio!

Thanks to my buddy, ancientclawz, we have discovered lots of intriguing clues. Our findings are circled above.

For example, take a look at that adorable giraffe statue (top right of picture)

That was sitting on that shelf long before giraffes came into Jamaa!

And look over there, at that small circle to the left, it's a cave painting of an octopus.

Again, this was here before octopuses were released!

And right above it there's two paintings: A ram/goat painting (the one faintly glowing), and two bird footprints.

Bird footprints, hmm... the eagles!

 And the ram? Maybe it's going to be our next animal?

We have some leaked photos below of a rumored goat:

 I can't tell if these are edited, or an actual soon-to-be animal in Jamaa!

I'm really excited to find out.

Leaked Adventure

To everyone saying this is a hack: Maybe you're right, maybe not. Idk. But keep in mind that AJHQ could be writing strange sentences as an outline of what they will say later. This is LEAKED, remember? It isn't supposed to exist yet.
When Liza says, "I'll say this and then disappear", it does sound a little fishy. But what if AJ was using that as an outline? They could replace "I'll say this" with whatever she is going to say, and "then disappear" with her actually vanishing!

Here's what Akachip from the Animal Jam Spirit blog has to say:

Please stop arguing about all this. If AJHQ doesn't release a new adventure within a month or so, something might be fishy. But for now, calm down. Let's just wait and see.

Updates & Autumn

Hey Jams!

 I intend on writing a very long post today, to make up for all those days I haven't posted. So we're going to cover all of the new updates, show the new item, and feature a video!

Let's start off with the updates.

 All images were taken by and belong to Violet86271.

The precious pet monkeys, sold in the Diamond Shop, are waiting to be bought. They're adorable and everything, but I should've known they would be for members only. The only pet non-members can get is hamsters!

Looks like there's a new game to try! Find it in Kimbara Outback.

Pandas have returned :)

I kinda missed them, to be honest. I know they aren't the cutest or most popular animal, but I missed seeing them around Jamaa.

Now non-members have another animal choice!

You might have heard the news - Animal Jam adopted an otter! If you'd like to see for yourself, check out the video in the "Helping Otters" part of the Jamaa Journal (shown above).

Autumn has arrived in Jamaa! I can't wait to see how beautiful Township looks this year!

Night of the Phantoms is coming soon. Get your scariest costumes ready and wait for the spooktacular parties and items to arrive!

 

Today's new item is the Wheelbarrow Planter (shown above). I think it looks very similar to the wheelbarrow with carrots that can be earned in the "Return of the Phantoms" adventure.

Egyptian Couch + 9/11

What a SHOCKER! It's another Egyptian item.

I'm pretty sure everyone saw this coming. I mean, Jamaa is turning into Egypt.

In other news, today is 9/11!

If you live in the USA then you'll understand the true meaning of this day. If you don't know what happened today then... well..

I guess I'll tell you.

"The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11)^{[nb 1]} were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage.^[2]

Four passenger airliners were hijacked by 19 al-Qaeda terrorists so they could be flown into buildings in suicide attacks. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Within two hours, both towers collapsed with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete collapse of all other buildings in the WTC complex, as well as significant damage to ten other large surrounding structures. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense), leading to a partial collapse in its western side. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was targeted at Washington, D.C.,^[3] but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. In total, almost 3,000 people died in the attacks, including the 227 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four planes. It also was the deadliest incident for firefighters and for law enforcement officers^[4][5] in the history of the United States, with 343 and 72 killed respectively."

So basically..

Everyone was minding their own business, when suddenly, a group of terrorists crashed airplanes into buildings.

The Twin Towers (and all of the other buildings) were destroyed, and almost 3,000 people were killed.

And these aren't just buildings. They're skyscrapers, meaning that if one of them falls, and you're below it, there's no way you can run far enough to avoid getting hit. You're doomed.

So yeah, to remember the bravery of everyone this day, my school wore red white & blue.

"Egyptian" Stuff.

The designers at AJHQ have been working hard to bring us this amazing collection of Egyptian decorations, but are they making a few fatal flaws?

Before I continue on this subject, let me just post the daily new item.

Ok, finished. That's the new item up there.

Pretty neat symbols, right? Well, yeah, they're cool and all, but they have a meaning as well.

I love the way that doomypanda (from the AJ Stream) put this.

I'm going to quote her for it, because well, there's not really a better way to say it.

"Egyptian" rug, "Egyptian" cat... "Egyptian" this, "Egyptian" that...

Regardless of how pretty the virtual rug is, what if someone had no concept at all of Egypt? Or at least, didn't have a very good teacher and saw Egypt as more of a concept than a real place? What if this was the first thing they saw, the first opinions stored into their head? You'll understand me as I go through this post.

If someone– a child, in this case –had only the vaguest understanding of Egyptian history and culture, they would look at all of these items and come to believe Egypt isn't known for much else aside ornate decoration. This understanding comes with say, the typical caricature medias paint of Cleopatra, as an overly-romanticised, possibly dehumanized light-skinned halloween costume idea. This is of course not true in the least. This is not Egypt.

The problems I have with AJHQ with this new item-theme are that they show the outside of Egypt– the media-influenced side we all tend to see in those really bad movies. The gold. The ornate outer shell of cat statues and gold scarabs, that while aesthetically beautiful is given no background.

AJHQ doesn't talk about the meanings behind these items, the history of them and the Ancient Egyptian people. Being an educational site, I'm honestly surprised. What's so bad about giving much needed background?

I know AJHQ may have made one post on the Daily Explorer– but let's face it, no one reads the Daily Explorer except for AJ bloggers looking for screenshots. Use a more accessible means to talk about it, like the Jamaa Journal.

It really all boils down to this: you can't show a culture's aesthetic without the culture. Even though it's an old one, today we know much more than is given with these items. There's really no point in shutting it out."

A Rant [ PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE ENTIRE POST ]

A rant to inspire you guys today:

Bullying? No. Just no.

No no no no no no no no no.....

CYBER bullying? BIG no-no.

NO NO NO.

You guys don't have any idea how much it kills me to see people suffer.

Idk, I wrote a poem I guess... ugh... I hate bullies.

Texts are read.

Tears are shed.

Words are heard.

And they hurt.

God do they hurt.

Bullying isn't just something you hear about in school. It happens. To REAL people!

Don't judge a book by its cover

As the song by Christina Perri says,

"I can fake a smile

I can force a laugh

I can dance and play the part

If that's what you ask"

  

Your best friend may seem like the happiest person in the world, but underneath, she could be hurting. Nobody likes sharing deep inner feelings. Nobody likes sharing their painful struggles.

The song also says,

"But I'm only human
And I bleed when I fall down
I'm only human
And I crash and I break down
Your words in my head, knives in my heart
You build me up and then I fall apart
'Cause I'm only human"

Tease your friends? No problem, I do that all the time! But you may never know how much your words actually affect them.

For example:

Kayleen and Jade are best friends.

Kayleen: *eats potato chips*

Jade: Kayleen, would you stop already? I'm surprised you aren't as fat as an elephant by now!

 Kayleen: Oh stop Jade, you're so weird.

Then they both laugh.

Doesn't seem like a big deal, right?

 Wrong.

Kayleen may seem good-spirited and completely not offended, but she feels quite the opposite inside.

She goes home and takes a quick look in her bedroom mirror.

She starts to wonder,

Maybe Jade is right. I am leaning on the heavy side a bit.

This leads to more wondering:

Is Jade the only person who thinks I'm fat? What if she wasn't kidding!

And more...

Oh my god. Come to think of it, Caitlin and Dylan have been staring at me a little strange lately.

AND EVEN MORE:

They must have been talking about me. Every time I approach them, they stop talking and stare! They're probably talking about my weight issue.

UNTIL IT'S UNBEARABLE:

Maybe I'd be better off dead. My parents must be so embarrassed to have a fat daughter!

Affects Others.....

*cries* MOM, DAD, WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME I WAS OVERWEIGHT!

parents- but honey, you aren't!

LIAR!!!

And her life becomes a wreck:

Maybe I'll just cut myself. Can't get any worse!

And she cries herself to sleep every night.

Not only are negative people a bummer to be around, they also make others negative!

In the example above, did you notice how a joke brought Kayleen to the point of breaking?

This is why I'm ranting.

I mean, seriously, does anybody deserve this?

And when Kayleen goes back to school, she'll act unaffected and happy. Like she never even harmed herself..

Don't be jealous of other people's seemingly perfect lives.

NOBODY, I can assure you, has a perfect life.

TV shows are FAKE. The characters are FAKE. Their perfect lives are FAKE.

So are reality shows. The truth hurts.

Let's take a closer look at Kayleen's friends who were mentioned:

Caitlin and Dylan.

Dylan: Why is Kayleen acting so weird lately?

Caitlin: Who knows.. puberty probably.

Dylan: No, no, she's acting VERY strange. Depressed almost?

Caitlin: Oh please, she's fine. Don't you see that huge smile on her face!?

*points to where Kayleen is sitting*

Dylan: I don't know Caitlin....

Caitlin: Yo, Kayleen, come over here!

*kayleen hears them and approaches*

Dylan: Dude, are you okay?

Caitlin: Yeah girl, you seem a little...down.

 Kayleen: Psshhhht.... oh I'm fine! Leave me be.

*caitlin and dylan walk away*

Kayleen: Were they talking about how fat I was?

Kayleen assumes wrong.

Now, what would have happened if Kayleen told her friends what was wrong?

Kayleen: Guys I'm fat. And I'm depressed. Well, I'm depressed because I'm fat.

Dylan: YOU? FAT? Oh please, if anybody at this table is fat, it's me.

Caitlin: Stop it okay!? NONE OF YOU GUYS ARE FAT! The only person here who's fat is me!

When Caitlin and Dylan go home, they take a look in their mirrors...

And wonder if they're really fat.

And that, my friends, is how depressed people work.

Don't make rude comments.
